This is an orientation article covering what Asentria does in the field of I/O Management (RTU) and basically how we do it. For a list of articles in this wiki which are relevant to the subject of I/O Management, click this button: I/O Management Related Documents

I/O Management (i.e. traditional RTU applications) refers to the generic class of uses whereby sensor inputs and controls on existing equipment and infrastructure, are sensed via an Asentria SiteBoss Controller and where alarms and telemetry from these inputs are forwarded back to a central management tool (and/or other notification points). Standard I/O types include:

  • Contact Closures
  • Voltage Inputs
  • 4-20ma Inputs
  • Variable Resistance Inputs
  • Temperature Sensors
  • Humidity Sensors

The Asentria site controller typically interfaces to this real-world I/O via various screw down terminals on the access panel of the base controller unit, or via Asentria sensors connected via the EventSensor port, both illustrated below.
